Bikram’s Yoga College of India (aka Hot Yoga)
Drinks lots of water, dress lightly and prepare to sweat!
I strongly encourage you to try this yoga just once. Commonly known as “Hot Yoga” or “Hot Box Yoga”, Bikram’s Yoga is physically and mentally challenging, but you will walk away feeling absolutely fantastic.
The class is always the same; a series of 26 postures, repeated in the same order to gradually stretch and strengthen every muscle in your body. Each posture is done twice – first for 1 minute and then for 30 seconds, with a rest in between each one.
The room is heated to roughly about 100 – 115 F.
This definitely takes some getting use to, but it really works.
Your muscles relax quickly and completely in the heat and the temperature forces you to concentrate and focus on your breathing.
Bikram’s Yoga has become very popular in Vancouver, and there are at least 5 schools now (I think)
This one at 101 – 1650 Alberni Street is my favorite, but they have two other locations also on West Broadway and another on Cambie Street.
Check out there website at www.bikramyogavancouver.com for class schedules, prices and locations.
