47th Annual Carol Ship Parade of Lights

by KennyG on November 25th, 2007

Carol ShipThe Carol Ship parade started 47 years ago with just one boat decorated with Christmas lights in Coal Harbour.

Now, on peak evenings, this tradition has grown to more then 80 boats all beautifully decorated with lights.  It is a truly amazing site to see!

The 23 night festival runs from Dec 01 to Dec 23, with the weekends being the best time to view the parade as this when the most boats are participating.

The ships like to vary their routes so you might spot them at different places like over in False Creek or passing under theFestival of Lights Lions Gate Bridge or going towards Second Narrows Bridge towards the shoreline communities of Port Moody and Deep Cove.  It’s best to check in advance on viewing them from the shoreline.

Along with all the boats, there are many community based celebrations that go on all along the shoreline.  So whether you decide to cruise along with the Carol Ships with one of the many charter companies that operate in the harbour, or whether you decide to watch from the shoreline, it will definitely be an evening full of fun!
