Yesterday was Nov 11th, the one day in our country when everyone stops and remembers our people who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  There were numerous ceremonies that were held throughout the lower mainland, and Canada.
Being a retired vet myself, I am always touched with this time of year.  Especially now, since so many of our trips are currently engaged in Afghanistan. Some of the ceremonies that took place were;

Sarah Mclachlan to Headline Olympic Countdown Concert

Canadian songstress/songwriter Sarah Mclachlan will be headlining the one-year countdown concert on February 12, as part of the 2009 Cultural Olympiad which celebrates the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Also appearing at the Queen Elizabeth Theater on February 12 will be Halifax singer/song writer Joel Plaskett with his alt-rock sound and the Alberta Ballet toasts two Canadian icons, Joni Mitchell and Jean Grand-Maitre, with its performance of IF, which blends Mitchell’s music and Grand-Maitre choreography.
Tickets are on sale now and are priced from $59 to $69.

Digital Storm LAN 2008

Digital Storm LAN is a 48 hour video game tournament for PC and XBOX 360. 
Vancouver is a regional qualifying location for any gamers who wish to compete in the World Cyber Games 2008 tournament. The qualifying tournament will be held at Croatian Cultural Center at 3250 Commercial Drive in Vancouver, and runs from August 1at 4pm until  4pm on August 3.
Winners of the qualifying tournaments at Digital Storm LAN will compete and the WCG Canadian National Finals.
Those who win at the national level will join Team Canada to compete at the World Cyber Games Grand Finals in Cologne, Germany.

Subaru Ironman Triathlon

Held in Pentiction, about 4.5 hours outside of Vancouver, Subaru Ironman Canada is the oldest ironman race held in North America.
Held August 24, and attended annually by more then 2,000 athletes from around the world, the Subaru Ironman Triathlon is one of the most beautiful and greatest athletic competitions in the world.
To complete the triathlon the competitors must survive and exhausting 3.86 km swim, endure a mountainous 180.2 km bicycle road race and then finish it off with a 42.4 km run…..I am exhausted just thinking about it!

WARHOL – Larger then Life

The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is hosting WARHOL-Larger the Life until August 24, 2008.
This exhibition delves into one the the 20th century’s most compelling and artistic personalities.
Warhol has over 150 paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs and films spanning over four decades.
On display will be prints of his Cambell Soup Cans, portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis. It will also feature a Mao room with Mao wallpaper, prints and drawings and compilations of five different films.
There will be a display of Warhol’s connection to Canada through archival materials, photos and newspaper clippings.
