The 63rd Annual Steveston Salmon Festival is being held on Canada Day. The day begins at 10am with a parade through historic Steveston village, which features 100 entries including floats, marching bands, celebrities, politicians, community groups, vintage vehicles and much much more.
The Official festival kick-off is on the Main Stage at 12:30 pm with the dignitaries, speeches, and the singing of O Canada. After, the stage features great entertainment all afternoon until 5pm. While living in Nova Scotia, I was lucky enough to be an owner of a Heritage House, that was 179 years young. This 6th annual tour finds a soft spot in my heart. The tour is a one-day self-guided tour of 10 unique heritage homes. Visitors are to navigate the tour using a 30 page guidebook detailing the history of each house.
I will be the one knocking on the door asking to use the phone…so I can check out inside as well

86th Annual May Day Parade

I am hoping to see everyone out at this years, 86th May Day Parade and Festival which is taking place in the village of Fort Langley. The annual even will be kicking off with a yummy pancake breakfast, then the parade will take place, a Strawberry tea, and then the Famous May Pole Dance, kiddie amusement rides and carnival games, live entertainment, vendors and food concession.
This is certainly going to be good fun for the whole family, so….who is coming??

Shashin: Japanese Canadian Studio Photography to 1942

This exhibit looks back through a period of almost 50 years of history through the eyes of Japanese Canadian Photographers who operated studios in Cumberland, New Westminster and Vancouver. There are over eighty black and white photographs on display revealing a variety of subjects from diverse communities at the time, both the elite and labourers.
An exhibition catalogue accompanies the show and is for sale in the Gallery shop.

Stanley Park’s Hollow Tree

One of Vancouver’s much loved landmarks, the Hollow Tree in Stanley Park, is about to be cut down.
The city’s parks board voted to take down the 1,000 year old Stanley Park stump know as the Hollow Tree.
Park staff had advised that the recent storm damage had fractured the remains of the old red cedar, and that it now posed a danger to locals and tourists that visited the old cedar tree for photos.
