Legend of Ogopogo

Over the years, the legend of Ogopogo has gained credibility as more and more sightings are reported.
Long ago, the Indians spoke of “N’ha-a-itk” who they referred to as a fierce lake monster that resided in Squally Point which is just 20 km south of Kelowna, in Vancouver’s Fraser Valley.
Descriptions vary, but certain characteristics have been used to describe Ogopogo over the decades.
Ogopogo is green, with a snake-like body and is about 25 meters long. Some have said his head looks like a horse, while others have reported it being reptilian and even goat like.
Some have claimed to have photographed the lake monster, but like the Loch Ness Monster, all those photographs have proved inconclusive.
Is it real or not?
Why not take a trip out to Kelown, which is about a 2.5 hour drive from Vancouver, and see for yourself!

Sundays at Civic Square

Willingdon Avenue & Central Boulevard, Burnaby. Metrotown’s Civic Square comes alive this summer with free performances for all to enjoy. This venue is located at Willingdon Ave. and Central Boulevard, east of the Bob Prittie Library.

There is free underground parking accessed from Kingsborough Street, 1:00pm – 5:00pm on Sundays.

Bike, Ride, and Skate

Critical Mass in Vancouver; Critical Mass is a grassroots reclamation of public space — a bike rde and skate — This event is held the last Friday of every month, and you are invited to enjoy the safety and comfort in the care — free space that we create by simply riding together!

Bicycles, skateboards, rollerskates, self propelled couches, and any form of human powered locomotion are all welcomed! We ride around the city wherever people want to go. This decided collectly, the length of the ride depends on enthusiasm and is also collectively decided.

Among the hemp shops, restaurants and boarding gears stores in Kitsilano sits one of the best comic books shops in the lower mainland.
The Comic Shop, located at 2089 West 4th Avenue, stock thousands of comic books from major publishers, as well as from independents.
They offer a huge selection of Marvel, DC and Image back issues, as well as a science-fiction section with well known artists. Popular role-playing games and accessories, collectible toys and magic supplies are also available.
For all those fans of Japaneses comics and videos, they have a well stocked inventory of Manga/Anime.
They also offer a mail order service!

Whippletree Junction

Here is a place that is just full of family fun. This place never failed to be full of fun, especially on those days when I had nothing to do, and I wanted something to keep me occupied.

Whippletree Junction is set within 14 restored buildings from the early 1900’s, filled with specialty shops and restaurants. The Junction is situated 7 km south of Duncan.

Got a slow day…want some entertainment….be sure to check this place out!

Victoria’s Annual Blossom Count

While most Canadians suffer through deep snow and bitter cold. Victoria enjoys the beginning of Spring.

For one week in early to mid February, the people of Greater Victoria on Vancouver Island count all the blossoms they can find. The results are then reported to the volunteers at the Flower Count HQ by telephone to 360.BUDS (2837) and prizes are awarded to the callers chosen at random each day.

How to Count:

Small tree full of blossoms 250,000 blossoms
Medium tree full of blossoms 500,000
Large tree full of blossoms 750,000
Small Heather bush 500
Medium Heather bush 1,000
Large Heather bush 2,000

Last minute Holiday Shopping

I was going to do a standard last minute shopping ideas post, but when I saw this I knew I had to show everyone.

Take your dog out for lunch

Doggie Style Deli operates a great doggie-diner designed to accommodate your four-legged friend. The tables and booths have been lowered, and a “no-fault” piddle policy is all part of their efforts to provide a comfortable setting for your pet.

Specializing in the PANDEAN diet (pasteurized, nutrient dense and all natural), the meals offered are prepared fresh daily and served in silver bowls. You are welcome to bring in your own lunch and/or drinks, because this dining experience is for your pet only; there is no people food served here!

Summer hours are from 11 am to 7 pm on Monday and Tuesday, and from 10 am to 7 pm Wednesday through Sunday. Winter hours are 11 am to 6 pm on Monday and Tuesday; 10 am to 7 pm Wednesday through Saturday, and 10 am to 6 pm on Sunday.
Well behaved dogs need not be on a leash when inside the restaurant.
Even if you don’t have a dog, but are a dog-lover…borrow your friend’s dog for the afternoon…it is a fun and fantastic way to spend a couple of hours.
