Sarah Mclachlan to Headline Olympic Countdown Concert

Canadian songstress/songwriter Sarah Mclachlan will be headlining the one-year countdown concert on February 12, as part of the 2009 Cultural Olympiad which celebrates the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Also appearing at the Queen Elizabeth Theater on February 12 will be Halifax singer/song writer Joel Plaskett with his alt-rock sound and the Alberta Ballet toasts two Canadian icons, Joni Mitchell and Jean Grand-Maitre, with its performance of IF, which blends Mitchell’s music and Grand-Maitre choreography.

Tickets are on sale now and are priced from $59 to $69.

Pemberton Music Festival

It’s a modern Woodstock for Vancouverites!
The first annual music festival in beautiful Pemberton features music giants such as Coldplay, Jay-Z, Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, Sam Roberts, Metric, Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Nine Inch Nails and The Tragically Hip, as well as many much less known acts like Vampire Weekend, Chromeo, Timeline and Tony Pantage, just to name a few.
So pack your tents and sleeping bags and get ready for an amazing weekend with lots of entertainment and unbelievable music.
There will be two stages for the performers, with more the50 bands schedule to play. There will be a large dance tent, a market, lots of food vendors and of course the camping!
The Pemberton Music Festival is on July 25 to 27, but get there early to stack out your spot for the weekend!

The cost for the weekend pass is $259.50 and a single day pass is $149.50, there is also a fee if you want to camp.
The festival site is at the base of Mount Currie in Pemberton, which is about a 2 hour drive from Vancouver.

Summer Sunday Concerts

Got some sunscreen? Well slap it on, grab yourself a lawn chair and get on down to Rocky Point Park in Port Moody for the second annual Summer Sunday Concert series.

Local Musicians will be there belting out jazz, folk, and soul every Sunday afternoon in July and August for free at the park’s open air gazebos.

After tapping your toe at these fine free performances, be sure to check out the spray park, hiking trails and excellent ice cream.

BC Centre for Ability

Here is another really good cause to come out for an support. The Kalan Porter Concert and Benefit for the BC Centre for Ability.

The BC Centre for Ability is a local charitable organization providing a wide range of services for children, youth and adults with disabilities. The concert is being organized by a Burnaby woman, whose son Dex suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Porter is taking time out of from his current tour schedule promoting his new album, Wake Up Living, to offer his support with the goal of raising $10,000 for the Early Intervention Therapy Program.

This Therapy Program covers speech therapy and physical therapy for brain injuries. Sony/BG recording artist Kalan Porter will be perfroming in support of the BC Centre for Ability.

This is taking place on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Michael J Fox Theatre. Tickets on sale now through the Theatre at 604.664.8875 or by email to monika.vriend@sd41.bc.ca

4th Annual Langley Jazz Festival
