Shashin: Japanese Canadian Studio Photography to 1942

This exhibit looks back through a period of almost 50 years of history through the eyes of Japanese Canadian Photographers who operated studios in Cumberland, New Westminster and Vancouver. There are over eighty black and white photographs on display revealing a variety of subjects from diverse communities at the time, both the elite and labourers.
An exhibition catalogue accompanies the show and is for sale in the Gallery shop.

“Last winter we assigned photographers to create a live-action snowmen in parks around BC. Two especially creative shooters, David R Glunds of Nelson, BC (who visited Kokanee Galcier Park) and Adam Gibbs of New Westminster BC (Mount Seymour Park) produced many magical images.”

Vancouver Actor in new X-Men Movie

Vancouver actor Taylor Kitsch has landed the role in the new X-Men movie X-Men Origins:Wolverine.
The actor, who will be playing the role of Gambit, the Cajun mutant, will also be joined by Vancouver born actor Ryan Reynolds, who will take on the role of Deadpool, a self-healing assassin.
The popular chararacter Gambit, had been anticipated in the previous X-Men films, but writters were having a hard time fitting him in amoung all the other mutants, lucky for Taylor, they have finally been able to!

Celebrating the beginning of the two year countdown to the Vancouver/Whistler 2010 Winter Olympics, this series of events highlights talent not only from around BC, but also from around the world.
Various venues with be hosting hundreds of performances of contemporary, classical and Aboriginal music,, literary arts, theater, dance and film. The impressive line-up of events will begin February 1 and run through to March 21, 2008.
The Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad Gala Concert takes place on February 12, and includes performances by Feist, Suzie McNeil, Ron Sexsmith, Leela Gilday, Jorane and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Canuck’s goalie Luongo out with rib injury

A rib injury prevented goaltender Roberto Luongo from playing Monday night in L.A.
Luongo, who was the runner up for the Hart and VeZina Trophies last season, suffered the rib injury after a hard shot found a “soft spot” in his equipment in the Dec. 2 game against Minnesota. Despite aggravating the rib again in Chicago on Wednesday, he played again Saturday against Pittsburgh, but said that it continually got worse during the game.
Luongo is 13-10-3 with 4 shutouts and is fifth in the NHL with 2.12 goal- against average and a .925 save percentage.
